Oldest DC Tobacconist Presents A Premium Cigar Lounge and Retail Emporium
WASHINGTON, D.C. (JANUARY 3, 2013)—The proprietors of W. Curtis Draper, the oldest full service tobacconist in the District of Columbia and the third oldest in the United States, presents a new premium cigar lounge and full service retail emporium located in the Chevy Chase Pavilion in Friendship Heights of Washington, DC. Opening on December 26, 2012 is Civil’s 500 square foot retail section that features a carefully curated selection of cigars from Nicaragua, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic, as well as world-class smoking accessories.
Then opening on January 14, 2013 is the adjacent 93-seat cigar lounge featuring plush banquette seating, leather club chairs, and intimate nooks and tables. The entire 5,000 square feet is equipped with a state-of-the-art ventilation system that seamlessly filters and replaces 100% of the air every two minutes. Advanced ductwork under the floor and an oversize air-handler ensure that both smokers and nonsmokers are at their most comfortable. Various sections of the lounge including a glass encased private room are available for special events upon request.
The lounge’s showcase feature is an expansive full service bar serving exceptional whiskies, scotches, premium and small batch spirits, unique cocktails, as well as an extensive wine selection. To pair with the libations is a small plates menu developed exclusively by chef Bryan Voltaggio of RANGE, located adjacent to Civil in the Chevy Chase Pavilion. The menu utilizes all of RANGE’s nine kitchens including the rotisserie, wood hearth, pasta station and bakery to bring guests unique dishes available only at Civil.
Co-owner Matt Krimm says, “When we were presented with the opportunity to open the lounge and partner with a restaurant, we wanted to work with chef Bryan Voltaggio. The sheer quality and craftsmanship behind his food elevates the overall Civil experience and we look forward to a long partnership with RANGE.”
For aficionados in the area, Civil also offers 125 humidified, personalized cedar cigar lockers that are available for annual lease. Leaseholders receive exclusive access to quarterly events, no-fee private room preference, 10% discount on all retail purchases, and priority reservations among the many benefits.
“For decades we have served messengers, civil servants, executives, ambassadors and occupants of a certain White House, and are thrilled to bring this type of retail retreat to Friendship Heights,” says co-owner John Anderson.
With their tagline “Drink. Smoke. Eat.”, Civil Cigar Lounge continues to bring the District the best in quality and service as both a superb cigar shop and now an exclusive eatery and lounge destination.
